Lou Harvey-Zahra is a popular parenting author with four books and is the Teen columnist for Juno magazine. Lou has two parented two teens, now almost 18 and 20 and is passionate about inspiring parents with practical and supportive ideas. Lou Harvey-Zahra’s Bio:

Lou’s passion has always been children. She has a BA hons degree and a postgrad in Primary Education, and a Postgrad in Special Needs education and a certificate in Rudolf Steiner teacher training.

Lou began her teaching career in a multi-cultural school in London in 1992. Five years later, she moved to Australia.

For the past twenty-eight years Lou has taught in Primary, Special Needs and Rudolf Steiner settings. It was whilst teaching at Western Autistic School, Melbourne, where she first discovered the ‘Least Restrictive First’ strategy to deal with challenging behaviours. During this time Lou began running workshops, culminating in presenting at the World Autism Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

After having children, Lou pioneered a Saturday Social Skills Club for children with Autism/Asperger’s and their families, which obtained Government funding and still runs today. She enjoyed her role for twelve years as a Steiner playgroup leader, assisting parents with their children, five years and under.  Lou helped to co-found a Steiner Kindergarten, and to pioneer a Steiner inspired school in Melbourne.

Lou writes for various parenting magazines and is the Teen editor of Juno magazine in UK. She has presented on ABCBabyTalk

Lou has now facilitated hundreds of talks across Australia, LA and UK. Lou’s popular parenting books include: Turning Tears into Laughter: Creative Discipline for the Toddler and Preschool Years (Five Mile Press, 2010, now out-of-print); Happy Child, Happy Home: Conscious Parenting and Creative Discipline (Floris Books, UK, 2014), which has become a bestseller and translated into three languages. Lou’s third book is Creative Discipline, Connected Family: Transforming Tears, Tantrums and Troubles While Staying Close to Your Children (Floris Books). And her fourth book with Floris is Growing Children, Thriving Children: Raising 7 to 12 Year Olds with Confidence and Awareness.

Lou has 10 registered PD with TeacherPlus and the government and is a lecturer on Positive Discipline in Classrooms. She loves to inspire parents and teachers.

Lou’s children are now 17 and 20.
